GRADUATING STUDENT (CGPA 4.85) AT THE 29TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY
OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI (FUTO), DATED THIS
3RD DAY OF DECEMBER, 2016.
The President and Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria and Visitor to the University,
The Executive Governor of IMO State,
The Chancellor,
Pro-Chancellor & Chairman of the 10th Governing Council,
The Vice-Chancellor,
Other Principal Officers of the university,
Members of the Senate,
Other members of the University Community,
Parents and Guardians,
My fellow Graduands,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is with sincere delight and heartfelt gratitude to God Almighty that I present
this valedictory speech (Vale dicere) on behalf of my co-graduands as the Best
Graduating Student today, at the 29th Convocation Ceremony of the Federal
University of Technology, Owerri. Without doubt, this honour- analogous to a
royal diadem- is an eloquent testimony of God's abundant blessings, the
corresponding hardwork of my ebullient and indefatigable lecturers in
Biochemistry and other Departments in this University to impact knowledge and,
of course, our efforts and commitment to burn the midnight oil in order to
assimilate, galvanize and 'log-out' information as the need arose. To God be
the glory.
To our beloved parents, we owe you a huge debt of gratitude for having borne
all the pains of seeing us through from cradle to this dizzying height of
success. We say, thank you. God bless you all immensely. We are forever
indebted to you both in pride and place and will work even harder to requite
your love. It has been an excruciating life all these five years as students, for
me and my classmates- my comrades in the battle for scholastic achievements.
We sincerely thank and appreciate the University Management, the Senate and
the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis C. Eze for creating the enabling environment
for quality learning to take place. We strongly believe and support the mantra of
your administration which is 'DRIVING THE CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE'.
Through this, you have been able to jettison the undisguised chauvinism of
some academics and disgusting apathy of others which enhance the
enthusiasm for hardwork and pursuit for excellence. We give special kudos to all
our lecturers in the University for their tireless efforts to create us.
We shall not fail to mention that the hub of any successful academic pursuit or
endeavour effectively hinges on purposeful vision and high level of commitment
to hard work. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, 'the heights reached and kept
by great men were not by sudden flights, for they, while their companions slept,
kept toiling and burning the midnight oil'. It is with these words, that I
admonish the ever articulate students of FUTO coming behind, to remain
visionary and painstakingly studious inspite of all challenges facing you. The
possession of the five cardinal virtues of wisdom, courage, discipline, hardwork
and humility aids success and honour, hence, one is the prime architect of
one's destiny.
To my fellow graduands, as we leave FUTO, let us always strive to live
purposeful life, pursuing our dreams and never being afraid to take a calculated
leap. Trying exploits and failing gives one an inner satisfaction one might never
attain by mere passing of examinations and the knowledge that you have
emerged wiser and stronger at the end, makes you more secure in your ability
to survive.
And so, on this memorable day, I say CONGRATULATIONS and wish you well in
your future endeavours.
Finally, on behalf of my fellow graduands, I say thank you for gracing this
occasion.
LONG LIVE FUTO!
LONG LIVE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!
