Corpers offer free eye test to pupils
A team of 11 corps members has offered free eye test and treatment to pupils of Sango Secondary School, Agege, Lagos.Led by Adejobi Israel, the corpers said the exercise tagged, “Project Visio was
their contribution towards the effort to address the problem of learning difficulty among high school pupils caused by vision impairment.
A total of 64 pupils both from the junior and senior sections of the school benefited from the exercise.
A member of the team, who conducted the eye check on the pupils, Dr. Lilian Okoronkwo, put the number of the pupils who needed both eyeglasses and medication at nine, while the number who needed only glasses was put at 29.
According to Okoronkwo, among those tested were also 10 pupils who only required glasses, while she put the number of referral cases at 16.
She added, “One pupil was reassured about her reflex tearing condition and another was comfortable with her pair of eyeglasses at present.
“Above all, there was a case of an 11- year-old male pupil who was diagnosed of cataract in both eyes, and needing urgent surgical procedures, otherwise, stands the risk of blindness in both eyes.”
Speaking on behalf of the other beneficiaries, a pupil from the junior section of the school, Udochukwu Ugoji, said, “I love the uncles and aunties that brought this to us; I also appreciate them for the eyeglasses, I am okay with it and promise to use it well.”
On his own part, Quadri Akande, representing the beneficiaries from the senior section said, “I appreciate the group so much, and I want to say the eyeglass now aids my vision properly.
