JAMB UTME 2016: Does Negative Marking Apply?

It’s been argued over time whether or not the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board -JAMB, the sole conductor of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Nigeria, use a negative marking strategy to grade students’ scores. Well, they may have adopted this in the past, but for the forthcoming 2016 UTME, they won’t!

JAMB UTM-Examination usually last for three and a half hours comprising of multiple choice questions drawn from Use of English and 3 other subjects specified by the candidate. Traditionally, JAMBites are given the Use of English paper to begin with after which the other 3 papers are distributed after some minutes later.
Students who applied for JAMB CBT  are to expect 100 questions in the Use of English section, and 50 questions each from their other three subject combination making a total of 250 questions gradable to a total of 400 marks.

The gist is this, since there is nothing like negative marking, it is advised that you click an answer option for all questions.
First answer the questions you are very sure of and come back later to answer the rest. Wasting undue time on one difficult question does not make meaning when all questions carry equal marks! Make sure you shade an option for every question, who knows, you might just be lucky to get all the ones you guessed.
